In Berks County, snow and sleet along with very cold temperatures combined with some accidents and other aspects to cause a 50-mile backup on Interstate 78. But the Armistice Day Blizzard, which (as the name suggests) hit Nov. 11, 1940, quickly and unexpectedly brought a flurry of deadly snowfall. Blizzard warnings are set to go into effect for much of northeastern Colorado from noon Wednesday until noon Thursday. Several old barns and metal sheds were lightly damaged, and numerous trees were downed, including at least one that fell onto a mobile home. This storm became impressive as it moved into the Ohio Valley during the 13th.
